Prius Takes on the Volt in a Battle of the Batties

When Japanese automaker Toyota first introduced the Prius to the general public, the message was clear: The hybrid is mainstream, and it's here to stay. And once the car-buying masses started opting for the fuel-sipping Prius more and more, it became clear to other automakers they'd need to fire back.
And fire back they did. Specifically, Chevy released a plug-in hybrid called the Volt, which even we'll admit is an impressive feat in the automotive world. Of course, that didn't put Toyota out of the green auto game for good. Rather, they've come back stronger than ever, and they're answer to the Chevy Volt comes in the form of an all-new Prius Plug-In that's expected to ship quite soon!
Of course, we here at Charles Barker Toyota know that the burning question now is, how do they compare? In terms of respective MPGe ratings, quite close. As Bob Carter, Group Vice President of Toyota U.S. Sales, states, "It's still an estimate, but we are confident it's going to be 95."1 This would put the company's new plug-in at one mile per gallon about the Volt's combined 94 MPGe. However, the 2012 Toyota Prius Plug-In does have on rather large advantage: Once the vehicles go into gas-electic hybrid mode, the numbers become quite different. While the Prius Plug-In boasts an amazing 49 mpg city/87 mpg highway, the Volt only achieves about 37 mpg combined.
Not interested in a hybrid model? We understand. In fact, it's the very reason why we carry such a wide range of new Toyota models to choose from here at 1877 Laskin Road Virginia Beach, VA 23454.
