AN ACHIEVABLE DREAM, INC.
AN ACHIEVABLE DREAM, INC.is a non-profit organization that operates an actual accredited school within the public school system -- An Achievable Dream Academy -- delivering a social, academic and moral curriculum to children who may not otherwise have hope to achieve their dreams.

It works by setting expectations, guidelines and boundaries, refusing to use poverty as an excuse, and recognizing inner-city kids can meet and often exceed expectations.

AGGRESSORS, VICTIMS AND BYSTANDERS
The AGGRESSORS, VICTIMS AND BYSTANDERS is a program for middle and high school students that analyzes habits of thought that promote, allow for, or prevent violence. In addition to considering the behaviors and motivations of people who commit acts of violence, the program addresses the roles that victims and bystanders play in violent situations. It explores how all three groups can respond differently to conflict. Students learn and practice conflict-resolution skills that enable them to stay safe while maintaining self-respect and respect for others.

D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education)
DRUG ABUSE RESISTANCE EDUCATION, commonly known as D.A.R.E., is a collaborative effort by D.A.R.E certified law enforcement officers, educators, students, parents and the community to offer an educational program in the classroom to prevent or reduce drug abuse and violence among children and youth. The emphasis of D.A.R.E is to help students recognize and resist the many direct and subtle pressures that influence them to experiment with alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, inhalants, or other drugs or to engage in violence.

CELEBRATE LIFE
As part of its ongoing commitment to community service, the Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office selects a high school for its ADOPT A SCHOOL partner. Each year, employees from the Sheriff’s Office assist with construction projects, volunteer their time for security details and act as chaperones to help ensure high school seniors have a safe and fun senior party. The event held inside a city recreation center is called "Celebrate Life."

EVERY 15 MINUTES
The Virginia Beach Police Department's Crime Prevention Unit in coordination with the City of Virginia Beach Public Schools conducts an anti-drinking and driving awareness program called EVERY 15 MINUTES. The program is designed as an interactive two day event that will educate high school students by identifying problems associated with their driving, socializing and alcohol related activities. It is the intent of this program to help the individual student understand that their behavior has a rippling effect on those around them: family, friends, classmates, etc. The program's name was derived from the fact that every fifteen minutes in the United States at least one person is killed as a result of an alcohol related incident to include alcohol related traffic accidents.
